Eighteen People Watching James Benning’s 20 Cigarettes

Information: Created for the June 2019 solo show for filmmaker/artist James Benning at Museum of Contemporary Art, Santa Barbara. Coded by Marco Pinter, a motion activated camera recorded 5 minutes of a person when they started watching a video of Benning’s 20 Cigarettes. This footage then was stored, delayed, edited, and projected in the same venue, creating a 90 minute meta-tribute to Benning’s own long-take, face-focused film art. Created with a grant from Museum of Contemporary Art, Santa Barbara.
