The Post, 2017 – ★★★½

Surprisingly better than I imagined (Oscar bait, stately pace). Instead, it zips along carried by the process of digging up the Pentagon Papers and then standing up to Nixon’s threats. Meanwhile it is also a story of a woman shuffling off the weight of her male predecessors and claiming her business as her own. So it’s very much a film about now. Which also means this might not be as effective later down the road, or will be a love letter to our once-democracy. Also: very odd seeing Oedenkirk and David Cross sharing scenes and not being funny.
